I am working on lesson plans, and I want to send a special thanks. The training facilitated on assessments has really done wonders for my ability to develop quality curriculum and lesson plans! I LOVE RUBRICS! I LOVE RUBRICS!!! Learning how to correctly create them has really changed my life. Seriously, my classes are so much more effective because my lessons are so much more focused to the needs of the children. Please continue to offer quality training like this. Thank you! With Love, Brandi

Purpose
BuildaBridge Institute is a research and training institute for community leaders, youth workers, ministers, teachers and artists that want to integrate the arts effectively in community-based service and church community mission. The Institute seeks to harness the power of the arts for community outreach and congregational transformation by bringing faith and art to life contexts. BuildaBridge Institute was formerly known as the Institute for the Church and Community Arts. We have changed the name to better reflect the broader scope of participants involved in the program.

We recognize the value artists and the arts have in transforming people and communities. We also recognize the lack of training and education available to many professional and lay artists (university educated included) in how to work within communities that present unusual challenges of economic, political and social injustice. BuildaBridge Institute is designed to meet the needs of artists, church leaders, community leaders and educators who want to integrate the arts effectively in community-based service and church community mission.

Program
The Institute is offered in an annual five-day residence. Currently, BuildaBridge Institute is offered in Philadelphia; however, a similar program is offered abroad through BuildaBridge International.

Courses are offered in 1.5 to 2 hour blocks throughout the day, where participants are engaged in interactive classes. Participants choose from foundational theory, applied arts methods and art skills classes.

BuildaBridge Institute enlists and maintains the help of over 30 professional artists, arts educators and community arts practitioners from Philadelphia and around the US to teach courses in the Institute. Volunteers assist with the general operations of the program.

The Institute is funded through registrations, local grants, educational and professional collaborations. Philadelphia co-sponsors have included the Philadelphia Department of Human Services (Division of Community Based Prevention Services), The Philadelphia Association of Christian Schools, The Philadelphia Foundation, The Conwell Inn, The Corner Bakery, Songhai Press, The Kardon Institute for Arts Therapy, St. Paul's Baptist Church and the Campolo School for Social Change at Eastern University, Philadelphia.

Undergraduate and graduate credit and ACT48 Teacher Certification credit are available through Eastern University. A Seminary Certificate is offered through Palmer Theological Seminary.
