Guatemala Update

ConversationBy Rosa Lennix: This week when I got to class I was excited and somewhat surprised to see that the children almost completely know the greeting song we have been

working on! It´s exciting to see that they are progressing in our classes. Beyond the greeting song, I worked on the basics of shading this week with the older children and more body parts with the younger ones. The little ones got to play ¨Simon Says,¨ a classic children's game of follow the leader to learn the parts of the body. They played as tables to encourage the value of teamwork. In the coming weeks I really want to promote teamwork and patience in my classes, especially with the little ones, because they really lack it. During lessons with the little ones, the class usually erupts into violence at least 2 or 3 times per class and children have to be separated from throwing punches at one another.

ClassIn the coming week, I plan to work on greetings review and shape recognition in drawing with the older ones, and review of the body parts, greetings, and teamwork with the little ones.
