It is late in the evening--should have been sooner--and we are on our way for the land of the Pharoahs, pyramids, camels, and one of the largest cities in the world with a growing sprawling urban population. This land of contrasts of the Lexus and the Olive Tree will be the discovery tour through the 15th with stduents from Eastern Univerity and guests.
Our
first day was a travel day--all night--and 12 hours to kill in
Amsterdam. So we took the train into the city to see the tourists sites and stay awake before leavning on another flight to Cairo where we would arrive at 3AM.
The trip to Cairo has been excellent and exiting so far--well organized. BuildaBridge partnered with Hands Along the Nile and Traveler's Egyp for this Discovery Tour.
In Amsterdam, we were able to walk through the Red Light district of Amsterdam and have an eye-opening discussion of human trafficking. General giggling at the sex workers in the windows--who were from in their 20-s-40-s--turned to serious concern after realizing these were potentially mothers working without passports in order to provide for
their children who they had left in other countries.
It wasn't all serious, as we were able to taste great fries with mayonaise. It was back to the airport--a few short hours of sleep--and then off to Cairo.
