For the past four years Buildabridge has been working on renovations and a proposal for a children’s art center located at the Buildabridge mansion on 205 West Tulpehocken Street. Buildabridge and its facilities are part of the community it serves, and we are commited to helping to restore the historic Germantown community. Therefore, we are moving forward with the restoration and conversion of our carriage house into a fully functioning space for arts education here in our own neighborhood. With a proposed outlook on complete renovations created by the Community Design Collaborative, we are working toward the reconstruction of this carriage house into a fully functioning children’s arts space; a space for children to explore, experience the arts, and think creatively.

BuildaBridge is excited to host its winter 2008 signature event, IDignity. On December 2-22, BuildaBridge will be presenting an exhibition at the Philadelphia Cathedral focusing on the issue of poverty and social justice. The show will exhibit artwork from local and international artists that highlight the dignity and value of those who are faced with social, economic, and physical hardships here in the United States and abroad. Please join us as we seek to give a voice this holiday season to a marginalized population that is often ignored and silenced.

Participants will work in family units to create a collaborative textile. Through participating in the project, families will develop artistic, academic, social, and character skills.
Jelly Armed Drawing

With arms swinging and wiggling, we started our second session of figure gesture drawing at 2nd Baptist of Germantown. It was a cool October evening outside, but inside the room was warm with movement as 8 students loosened their muscles to make them like jelly. One may ask: "What does jelly have to drawing?" Our students will explain that gesture drawing has to be quick and expressive.

I am Zhou Bo from Amity Foundation, Nanjing, China. I am currently visiting the Buildabridge House, and studying here in the UnitedStates from September to the end of October. My program of study includes English tutorial study, observation in a volunteer driven non-profit and classes at Eastern University. I am glad to work as a volunteer for BuildaBridge, and during my time here I am learning about American culture, NGO processes and American society. All theses activities provide me with important experiences, and an increased global awareness that will enhance the Amity Foundation’s capacity building plan as well as my work abilities. Additionally, my visit to BuildaBridge marks a growing partnership with Buildabridge; I believe there is potential for the Amity Foundation to cooperate with BuildaBridge and help children with special needs in China through arts-integrated intervention. In January, Dr. Corbitt is making a visit to China and the Amity Foundation.
