Personnel
Drs. J. Nathan Corbitt and Vivian Nix-Early are the co-founders of BuildaBridge. They met at Eastern University while working with the Angels of Harmony Gospel Choir and subsequently leading the group along with Minister Bill Reeves to Africa in 1996. From that musical safari in which the group participated in racial reconciliation between white and black South African Baptists, they generated the concept for an organization that could motivate artists to be involved in education, healing and reconciliation. Incorporating in 1999, and soon joined by an intern, Janelle Junkin from Eastern University, BuildaBridge began to develop from a donated office space in northeast Philadelphia at the Star of Hope Baptist Church. Now the organization is composed of several paid staff, Americorps Vista workers, and many volunteers; we have our own office space in historic Germantown.
