Date: Nov 2007- Feb 2008
Place: Bethlehem, West Bank
Purpose: 90% of Palestinian Children are traumatized by the conflict.
BuildaBridge artists will be involved in the creation of an art center for the
children in Palestine.
The goal is for children to gain awareness
of the other, either refugee or city resident so that they can see the
similarities between themselves and also learn through the differences. The
medium of drama will allow the children to interact in an informal way and
build relationships so that stigma can be assuaged. Working with the help of
local Palestinian artists and drama teachers will be a crucial part of this
program. BuildaBridge realizes the importance of utilizing local residents in
carrying out their own community building. She will facilitate and act as a
connection for these services.
Kathleen McLaughlin, is a current
MA candidate in International Peace and Conflict Resolution at Arcadia University,
who lived in al’Azzeh refugee camp with a family last summer in Bethlehem. She will travel to Palestine in November
2007-February 2008 to work with refugees in Bethlehem with the goal of community building
through drama workshops. Kathleen will collaborate with local organizations
