Thursday January 19, 2012. Creative artists and educators joined Dr. Nix-Early at the BuildaBridge House to learn about the BuildaBridge Classroom model. After a review of the model, the interactive and experiential training gave two teams 45 minutes to create a lesson integrating art and an academic skill.
Using a metaphor that emphasized a life skill was also a requirement. The groups then taught each other in a mock classroom including rituals and structure to create a safe learning space. "Teaching Fractions" was the academic skill of one group.
The BuildaBridge Classroom sm is a teaching model that is child-centered, trauma-informed, and hope-infused with a goal of building resilience. Participants are preparing for service with BuildaBridge programs in Philadelphia.
